OCCU-TEC Helps Large School District Test Water Across 65 Buildings
Water Sampling | Lead & Copper Testing
SITUATION: In 2017, the Kansas City 33 School District needed a partner to collect drinking water samples on up to 75 percent of potable sources across 25 buildings. Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) serves more than 14,000 students in grades pre-K through high school.
SOLUTION: OCCU-TEC partnered with KCPS to create a testing schedule that accommodated the school’s complex scheduling. OCCU-TEC:
- Collected samples as first draw, analyzing for lead and copper, in accordance with EPA 1991 LCR.
- Identified two samples out of 163 with lead and copper above the legal requirements.
- Worked with KCPS to remediate the situation, removing sources with elevated lead and/or copper and replacing new sources.
RESULTS: Follow-up sampling demonstrated all concentrations were below regulatory limits. Then, in a testament to our strong working partnership, KCPS relied on OCCU-TEC again in 2020 to sample drinking water, this time across 40 buildings. Two out of 301 samples returned with elevated samples and, once again, OCCU-TEC helped KCPS replace the sources.
